Spindle Spun Yarn Challenge
Last Sunday I challenged myself to see how much yarn I could spin up on my drop spindles in one week.. All spun in bits of time that I am doing something but my hands are free- like helping a child with school work, walking (exercising), waiting for the water to boil for dinner...etc... Here is the results.

I am pleased with how much I got spin. The middle row of novelty yarn- I love this yarn. I think I will use it in a shawl or shrug for my daughter. So if you think you can't get a lot spun on a spindle... think again.

You said it!
I don't own a wheel, and my spindles get a lot done. I have to try walking and spinning now...I haven't done that yet! But I have spun while my husband tried to find a good quality belt in Walmart....that took a while and boy was I glad I had my spindle. :-)
You've inspired me! I sold my wheel quite a few years ago but still have a bunch of fleece and roving (using for felting) and was thinking that I should at least get a drop spindle to spin some but thought I wouldn't really get much produced. After seeing this, I bet I'll have a drop spindle by the end of this week!
Laurie, I am so glad to have inspired you.. Get a Bosworth- they are the best!
I'm feeling inspired now. I bought a drop spindle & a huge bag of hand-dyed rovings almost a year ago & haven't even looked at them apart from when I first opened the pack. I'm definitely going to haul them out & have a go while I wait for my wee baby triloom to arrive.
I have a wheel, but I actually like the control I have better on a spindle. Right now, I am spinning a alpalca silk blend. I am spinning very fine. I will probably end up having to ply it.
Any thoughts on the best way to ply it? I tried the Najavo ply awhile back but it was too bulky.
I have two plied on a spindle, but not in a few years maybe I will try that.
