Brown Shawl Finished... It's reversable!
I finished the brown shawl and was pleasantly surprised to find that I had 2 different looks in one shawl..

Ok, the above pictures are of the front side with the eyelash type yarn- this is a handspun wool plyed with this novelty yarn.. You can see the texture of the handspun yarn- I used locks of wool from different breeds.. then there is brown merino and cream wool down the middle.. Now on to the back side- when you are feeling more subdued.. not so artsie...

Once I finish pulling all of the little eyelashes to the front side this will be the more conservative side- a totally different look but still full of texture.. I love this shawl..

Brown Shawl and Shawl Barter
I have been working feverishly today to finish my brown shawl.. Why do I need to get it done?? I bartered a shawl for a drum carder.. Look at all the luscious yarns she is sending for me to use in her shawl.. silk, wool, mohair I think.. How fun..

So here is the progress on the brown shawl. The all brown yarn is some of my first handspun.. The furry yarn is handspun from my friend Tina of Take Heart Farm, the lock spun yarn is spun by me. There is a wide variety of wool breeds in this yarn.

Spindle Spun Yarn Challenge
Last Sunday I challenged myself to see how much yarn I could spin up on my drop spindles in one week.. All spun in bits of time that I am doing something but my hands are free- like helping a child with school work, walking (exercising), waiting for the water to boil for dinner...etc... Here is the results.

I am pleased with how much I got spin. The middle row of novelty yarn- I love this yarn. I think I will use it in a shawl or shrug for my daughter. So if you think you can't get a lot spun on a spindle... think again.
