Heather's Shawl is Finally Done!! WOOHOOO!!

It still needs the edge crocheted and a good long soak ,that will happen tonight.. but it is off the loom!! I am anxious to see how it will turn out. Some of the yarn I used I know exactly how it reacts to a good soaking.. but I also used some handspun.. so I am curious to see if I get a rippled effect or if it will all come together nicely. I can't wait!

The Shawl That Took On A Life Of It's Own....

This is the story about how a certain alpaca shawl decided to take on a life of it's own. I have never had this happen before so I was not prepared.. Shawl is woven out of a sock weight alpaca.. So the weave was very loose. The yarn is Atacama I believe. I put it in a tub for a good hot soak- which usually fluffs up the fiber and allows it to fill in a bit. This did not happen.. So it had to go into the washer for a bit of hot water aggitation. The shawl was quite large so I wasn't worried it would shrink up.. When I took it out I was very surprised to find that the yarn fluffed up like a boucle! And the yarn had shifted all over the place. The only thing to do was to allow it to felt a bit to fill in the holes. So off for another hot water aggitation. The shawl was still quite large before going in but it came out half it's size!! And now it looked like I had woven it with a heavy boucle yarn. And one side didn't felt as well as the other- so one side is large than the other side.. From the front it is fine- as you see I pinned a brooch on that side. But from the back you can see the difference.
I feel horrible. Mary has waited so long. I love the look of the yarn.. as a felted wrap it is awesome but as a shawl... not so good.

Susan's Shawl is Done!

I must be honest... this one is going to be hard for me to part with... It is soft, spongy, light as air... It drapes well.. I absolutely love this shawl... It is made out of Katmandu yarn from Queensland yarn.. I am going to be asking Santa to get me some of this yarn.. I must weave myself a shawl out of this stuff!!! I hope Susan loves it as much as I do!

Silk Shawl Done...

I love the texture of this shawl... I don't know if I will use as thin of a yarn as I did again.. but I do like the overall look..This shawl has commercial and handspun silk, boucle, chenille, handspun wool, hemp, and handspun alpaca. These pictures are before a good soaking.. I hope Ann likes it..

Brown Shawl Finished... It's reversable!

I finished the brown shawl and was pleasantly surprised to find that I had 2 different looks in one shawl..

Ok, the above pictures are of the front side with the eyelash type yarn- this is a handspun wool plyed with this novelty yarn.. You can see the texture of the handspun yarn- I used locks of wool from different breeds.. then there is brown merino and cream wool down the middle.. Now on to the back side- when you are feeling more subdued.. not so artsie...

Once I finish pulling all of the little eyelashes to the front side this will be the more conservative side- a totally different look but still full of texture.. I love this shawl..
